The Veterinary Companion Animal Surveillance System (VetCompass) is an international initiative focused on improving companion animal health. This not-for-profit research project based at the Rotal Veterinary College (RVC) aims to investigate the range and frequency of companion animal health problems and identify important risk factors for the most common disorders.  The standardisation of veterinary terminology, along with definitive linkages with synonymous terms, has allowed for an increased ability to data mine and collect large scale epidemiological data from a wide variety of sources.
